I am a qualified teacher of Modern Languages and former Head of Department with 16 years' experience in secondary schools, further education and sixth form colleges. I hold a B.A. (Hons) in European Studies (French and Spanish) and the Postgraduate Certificate in Education from the University of Bath. In 2003 I became a self-employed language tutor, teaching French and Spanish from beginner to degree level. I provide classes for leisure or holiday purposes, tuition for families moving to France or Spain, exam coaching for students at GCSE, AS and A level, and language training for businesses. I also undertake translation work in both languages. There are many advantages to private tuition compared with college-based learning: tuition is tailor-made to suit the needs of individual students using appropriate materials; the time and duration of lessons can be adapted to accommodate students with irregular work patterns; there are clearly more opportunities to practise the language on a 1-1 or small group basis, and all ages are welcome.
